ASTD VOS Scholarship Winner Announced at Don Kirkpatrick Honors Reception

September 4, 2013

“The mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions.” -Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

On August 22, the ASTD Valley of the Sun Chapter hosted the Don Kirkpatrick Honors Reception, during which they announced the winner of their annual Don Kirkpatrick scholarship. This scholarship program was implemented as “a unique way to give back to the profession and help stretch the capabilities of a Learning and Performance professional. The Don Kirkpatrick Scholarship program provides a strategic opportunity for a learning and performance professional to learn, develop, grow and then apply their leanings by ‘paying it forward’ for the greater good,” remarked Phoebe Swan, President of ASTD Valley of the Sun.

We are pleased to congratulate Jared Allen, whose essay about the importance of training has won him a free seat in an upcoming Kirkpatrick Four Levels® Evaluation Certification program. Jared works as a Training Program Developer for Goodwill of Central Arizona.

Jared noted, “I became a trainer at Goodwill of Central Arizona because I find success in helping others to be successful, and I’m determined to continuously foster the success of all our employees and those we serve in the community. Once I become Kirkpatrick certified, I will be able to ensure that the training we develop and deliver is as effective and valuable as possible.”

In his essay, Jared discussed how critical it is for his organization to ensure that they are adequately preparing job seekers for employment.
